James Charles, pictured in front of the LTC home construction site, is a well-loved community member, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is full of stories from his prospecting days in the wilderness of Northern Saskatchewan, jokes, and heartbreaking stories of his years in residential school in P.A. A resident of Nīkinān, he eagerly watches the new LTC home build and is keeping an eye out for valuable rocks on the build site.
Nadine Veteri required full-time care, which Gary, her husband, provided while waiting for an open bed in Nīkinān. After more than a year of home care, countless trips to Saskatoon, and a couple weeks of respite care, Nadine was able to live out her days in Nīkinān. Gary loves La Ronge, and couldn't imagine leaving his home. He advocates for those who need care, knowing that children and grandchildren will be the most impacted by their loved ones being able to receive care, at home.
Mary and her sister have taken on the role of caretaker for their mom. Nīkinān is able to provide very occasional respite care in one of its two temporary beds. The combination of respite care and home care allow Mary's mom to stay home while receiving excellent healthcare.
